About
Thanks for checking me out.
My name is Daniel Ford and I reside in the State of New York, just North of New York City. I’m originally from Canada and previously lived in Los Gatos, CA (Silicon Valley) for more than a decade.
I’m a Computer Scientist and currently work for IBM Research at the IBM Almaden Research Center in San Jose, California. I work with my group in California remotely from New York. I also occasionally work at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center in New York. You can find my external IBM web page here.
I’m an Eclipse comitter and Project Lead for the Spatio-Temporal Epidemiological Modeler (STEM) project under the Eclipse Technology PMC.
I have a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and degrees, also in Computer Science, from the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University. I’m also part way through completing a “Certificate in Bioinformatics” from the UC Santa Cruz Extension program.
I have way too many interests. Professionally, I’m very interested and active in open source development, mostly through the Eclipse Foundation. Lately, I’ve been working at the intersection of model driven software development (MDSD) and applications in health care. In the past, I’ve worked on everything from web search, location based services and semantic personal information management.
In my spare time…I’m an Amateur Radio Operator (KD6WKX) and particularly enjoy contesting. Also, since I was quite young I’ve been fascinated by electronics, both design and fabrication, I probably would be an Electrical Engineer if I hadn’t encountered Personal Computers when I was a teenager. My latest ventures are into micro-controllers, particularly the Atmel AVR series, and Robotics, where I’m still a newbie.
